Writing Can Be Murder

I kill people who piss me off

and I enjoy it, dammit!

Yup, if somebody pisses me off, I plot my revenge.

Sure, I kill them off in a piece of fiction (only cuz I KNOW that with my luck, if I even tried it in real life, something would go wrong. They’d end up alive and fabulously wealthy after selling the story of their attempted murder and I’d end up sharing a cell with someone named Bertha or Helga or something) but still I take a certain satisfaction in making sure people get exactly what they deserve.

I thought this was a pretty common practice (ok, I assumed that EVERYONE — even people who don’t write — kills off their enemies (perceived or otherwise) in their imagination.

Then the other day I commented on something on Kate Perry’s blog (it’s a hoot, check out her site at www.KatePerry.com) and I revealed that I make a point of killing off people. And I realized that not everyone does.

How do you people get through the day?

 This truly baffles me….

  1. Aawww… Thanks. 🙂

The most vindictive I’ve gotten in my writing is that I name all my heroines’ bastard ex-boyfriends Kevin. Because I’ve never met a Kevin who hasn’t been a rat bastard. (That’s not to say there isn’t one Kevin in the world who’s a great guy. Maybe. I remain skeptical.)

  2. LOL — That’s funny and come to think of it I think you may be on to something, can’t think of a Kevin I’ve ever liked… In your next book you’ll have to take my advice and kill off a Kevin! (trust me, it’s SO satisfying!)

  3. I used to kill off my ex-husband in every story I wrote. Once, I even opened one with this line…

    Her husband was dead…

Yeah, we had some serious issues. Hence, the divorce. lol

  4. Rene — ah, a woman who understands exactly what I’m talking about! 🙂
