79 Rejections

Filed under: Uncategorized — jenniferelbaum @ 4:33 pm

I was just reading an article in The Writer magazine (an excellent magazine, imho) about how Sara Gruen  (“Water for Elephants” which is in my tbr pile) writes and in it she says that she received 79 rejections for her query for her first novel. Wow! Talk about being resilient. She just kept at it. Good for her!

Since last week I asked how many rejections I should shoot for in 2007 (and because this week I was asking about accountability) I thought I should share my progress: 0 for 99

but the year is still young. So far this year I’ve submitted two pieces of flash fiction and a query for one of my screenplays. The rejections should start rolling in at any time now.

  1. 79 rejections on one novel. I don’t know if I can think of 79 places to send a single manuscript. Kudos to her for not giving up, because you just never know.

  2. I wonder if she just kept sending the query to the same places until someone agreed to read it?
