Writing Can Be Murder

Messy is the new neat

Filed under: Uncategorized — jenniferelbaum @ 1:04 pm

I recently read an article in TIME about the book, “A Perfect Mess: The Hidden Benefits of Disorder”.

All I can say is “Yay!”

According to the article by Jeremy Caplan, the books authors Eric Abrahamson and David Freedman say that “America’s obsession with order might be counterproductive.” It’s their opinion that we spend way too much time, money and emotional energy in the pursuit of order.

The article caught my eye because

A: I struggle to be organized (I was going to blog about this last week, but I misplaced the article, lol).

B: My writing feels messy lately. Usually I write in a pretty straight line from beginning to end, but not lately. I’m all over the place. My thoughts are jumbled. My notes are a mess. I’m writing in snippets instead of chapters.

Maybe I should embrace this new idea that messy is neat. What do you think?

  1. You know I’m on board with this! Though I’m becoming a dedicated FLYLADY [LOL] I’ve always believed that creativity thrives in disorganization.
