Writing Can Be Murder

Inspiration (and rejection)

I don’t understand when people say “I don’t know where you get your ideas.”

Coming up with ideas is not the problem. Having too many ideas is a problem. Focusing on just one idea when so many others are clamoring for attention is a big problem.

Life gives me so many ideas. For example: I just read a story about a dog who saved a woman who had crashed her car.  http://articles.news.aol.com/news/_a/crash-victim-says-dog-saved-her-life/20070202200709990006?ncid=NWS00010000000001

In the article she says she thought he was a vampire or werewolf or something. BANG! There’s an idea: a dog who rescues a woman really is a werewolf, or shapeshifter or whatever I want to make him. The woman loves his canine persona but will she hates him in his human form. How’s that for an idea?!?!

 Where do you get ideas?

I realized I forgot to chime in with my rejection count for January. I received three, a slow month.

  1. That’s a fabulous idea for a story! Get cracking!People ask me that all the time too – I get my ideas from everywhere, all the time. If only I had a staff of twelve and a few extra hours in the day, I could flood the market with my stories!

  2. Naah, I’ve got too many ideas I can’t finish already. So anyone who would like to lift the idea — feel free!
