“S” names

Filed under: Uncategorized — jenniferelbaum @ 6:33 pm

Do yourself a favor. Never give your characters names that end with the letter “s”.

Otherwise you find yourself stumbling over phrases like “Mr. Jones’s suitcase”.

This lesson I have learned by giving not one, but two characters in my WIP names that end in “s”

 s-s-so long!

  1. “I’m hissing and fizzing like snakes!”

That line woke me up at 3:37 a.m.

    Why?

  2. Once I learned that you can’t just tack an apostrophe on the end of a possessive S name – This is Jonas’ book — I tried to stop using them just because I thought s’s looked awkward. I feel bad for all those S names I’ve passed up since then, but as anyone in the entertainment industry can tell you, looks do matter. Sad but true.

  3. But I love my names…

Note to self: replace every s name with Tom or Bob
