About Thanksgiving Dinner

Filed under: Uncategorized — jenniferelbaum @ 8:49 am

I’m a food snob.

As I sat purveying the feast my mother-in-law had prepared, it occurred to me that Thanksgiving Dinner has got to be one of my least favorite meals (which is not a reflection of her cooking because everything was cooked well for what it was) because I am not a fan of most things canned, mashed, mushy or creamy.

As I shared the other day, I don’t like canned cranberry sauce (it doesn’t matter that there are two varieties).

I hate gravy.

I dislike stuffing cooked in the bird because it’s mushy.

I don’t understand the appeal of that green bean casserole thing. Canned goods, creamy and mushy!

I’m okay w/ sweet potato pie or mashed turnips, but not both — how much orange food that looks like baby food can an adult stomach?

See? I AM a food snob.

What do you love or hate about Thanksgiving dinner?

I LOVE PIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. I LOVE gravy. Why don’t you like it? It’s not canned, mashed, mushy, OR creamy. It’s gravy. Yummy deliciousness.

I’m not a big cranberry fan–canned or homemade.

I LOVE mashed potatoes (I’m a potato freak). And I love sweet potato pie with marshmallows on top (but only if it has marshmallows). I’m sad we didn’t have sweet potato pie this year. First year ever.

I’m not a huge fan of stuffing, but it’s growing on me.

And I absolutely can’t stand pumpkin pie unless it’s drowned in whipped cream. Or if it’s pumpkin cheesecake pie. Mmm. the cheesecakieness makes up for it being pumpkin.

  2. What? Gravy can be canned and creamy (with lumps)!

Totally with you on the mashed potatoes, but my MIL doesn’t serve those. She did make sweet potato pie with marshmallows though. May I suggest that next year, you offer to make the sweet potato pie? — this is the devious plan I use whenever I REALLY want something and it makes me sound generous 😉

I love pumpkin pie but that’s not served either. 😦 Now I want pumpkin pie, or pumpkin cheesecake because that sounds yummy!
